Granville indoor track does well at Sectionals

After a fourth place finish at the Wasaren League Championships, the Granville girls indoor track team Indoor Trackdid one better at the Section II, Division IV Championships.

The girls finished third out of 12 teams with 68 points, ahead of both Mechanicville and Stillwater, which finished ahead of Granville at the league championships. Fonda-Fultonville and Greenwich finished in first and second place, respectively.

“The team did a great job,” Coach Adam Burr said.

Granville was led by Taylor Scribner and Hannah Jones, each of whom were crowned Section II championships, and Brianna Kelly who finished as runner-up in two events.

The 55-meter dash was a repeat of the Wasaren League Championships with Scribner and Kelly finishing one-two, respectively.

The duo posted the fastest times in qualifying and dominated the finals, finishing nearly three-tenths of a second ahead of the third place finisher.

Scribner won the finals with a time of 7.85 seconds while Kelly crossed the line in 7.93 seconds.

The two standout runners also squared off in the 300 meter dash with Kelly finishing second in a time of 46.37 seconds and Scribner fourth in a time of 46.77 seconds.

Jones also earned a Section II crown Sunday.

She posted a time of 1:48.80 to win the 600 meter run. She also added a second place finish in the pole vault, clearing 7 feet, and was part of a 4X400 meter relay team that finished third.

Emily Leavey placed in both in the long and triple jumps. She was second in the triple jump (31 feet, one-half inch) and was fifth in the long jump (13 feet, 10.5 inches).

She also teamed with Jones, Zoe Paige and Rachel Bartholomew to finish third in the 4X400 meter relay.

The girls 4X200 relay team, consisting of Paige, Scribner, Kelly and Brianne Mound finished fourth.

While the boys team didn’t enjoy the same success as the girls squad, it did have a couple of individuals place in their respective events.

Senior Ryan Dalaba placed in two of the long distance events. He was second in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:09.81 and was fourth in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:07.04.

He also teamed with Connor Lennox, Giovanni Perrillo and Gavin VanBuren to finish fourth in the 4X800 relay.

Adam Hastings also placed in two events. He was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 33 feet, 2.5 inches and third in the weight throw with a distance of 33 feet, 4.5 inches.

As a team the boys finished ninth out of 12 teams. Stillwater, Fonda-Fultonville and Greenwich finished first, second and third, respectively.

Scribner, Kelly, Jones and Leavey will return to the University of Albany this week for state qualifiers, which determines which athletes move on to the New York State Championships next month.
