Ice fishing clinic at Carter’s Pond

Families who wish to learn the sport of ice fishing are welcome to attend a free ice fishing clinic taking place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 7 at the Carter’s Pond Wildlife Management Area in the Town of Greenwich.

The event is co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Washington County Federation of Sportsmen.

“The event is geared toward youth and others who are new to the sport,” said DEC Region 5 Director Bob Stegemann.

Spikes, tackle, loaner jigging rods and instruction will be available for all participants. Supplies are limited, so people are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it. Bait will be provided courtesy of Country Pets of Hudson Falls. Anglers can expect to catch crappies, perch and bluegills.

A fire, hot dogs and hot chocolate will be available to warm participants. While a DEC fishing license is not required for this event, all other statewide regulations remain in effect.

Carter’s Pond parking area is located along State Route 49 in Greenwich. A map can be found at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24402.html.
