Morgan Winters successful at state qualifier

Whitehall’s Morgan Winters performed well in her two events – the 55 meter and the triple jump – at Indoor trackthe New York State Qualifier meet last Thursday.

The sophomore had jumps of 31-feet 10.5-inches and 31-feet 5.75-inches in the triple jump, finishing 14th at the State Qualifier. She also finished tied for 27th in the 55 meter dash, with times of 7.94 seconds and 8.14 seconds.

The week prior, members of the Whitehall indoor track team performed well at the Section II tournament as well.

Winters finished fourth in the 55 meter with a time of 8.23 seconds and third in triple jump with a jump of 30-feet, 11-inches.

Abby Dickinson also recorded points for the girls’ team. Dickinson finished sixth in shot put with a throw of 25-feet 7.25-inches and fifth in the 600 meter with a run of 1:58.50.

The boys had some individual performers at the Sectional Tournament as well.

Cullen Flynn took third in pole vault, clearing nine feet; Alexander Wood was sixth in high jump with a height of 5-feet; and Steven Foster was fifth in shot put with a throw of 34-feet 5-inches.

Prior to the Section II meet, the team performed in the Wasaren/Adirondack League Championships and took home some accolades.

Winters finished first in triple jump with a jump of 31-feet .5-inches and fifth in the 55 meter with a time of 8.21 seconds.

Dickinson took third in shot put with a throw of 27-feet 6.25-inches.

Haley Wiskoski took fourth in two separate events, long jump and triple jump, with jumps of 12-feet 8-inches and 12-feet 10.5-inches, respectively.

Tiana McKee also scored for the girls’ team with a fifth place finish in the 55 meter hurdles. She finished that race in 11.27 seconds.

Three different athletes on the boys’ team recorded points in the League Championships.

Flynn finished third in pole vault by clearing 8-feet and he also recorded a fifth place finish in triple jump by hopping skipping and jumping to 31-feet 11.5-inches.

Wood added a fifth place finish in high jump by clearing 5-feet and Logan LaChapelle came in sixth in triple jump with a jump of 29-feet 7.25-inches.

Wood and fellow seniors Meghan Redmond, Sean Hart, Zachery Eaton have all officially competed in their last indoor track meets and Head Coach Amanda Mazza wished them luck.
