Granville baseball splits at tournament

Granville’s varsity baseball team split its annual Ken Burch Memorial Tournament.

The tournament, which was mired by unseasonably cold weather—it snowed—was held last Tuesday at Wednesday on the Golden Horde’s home field.

Granville defeated Warrensburg in the opening game of the tournament, earning a 5-4 win.
The Horde scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to rally from a 4-2 deficit.

Matt Fuller earned the win for Granville.

Jake Young scored two runs for the Horde and Cole McCullen tallied two RBIs on a single and a double.

Warrensburg jumped on the board with a run in the first inning, but Granville answered back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.

The Burgers retook the lead with a two-run third inning and tacked on another run in the top of the fifth before Granville rallied.

The following day Corinth scored 18 runs in a four inning stretch to earn the 18-4 win.

Granville capitalized on three Corinth errors in the first inning, pushing four runs across the plate, but couldn’t get anything going the rest of the way.

The Tomahawks scored took the lead with five runs in the third inning and scored three times in the fourth and five times in both the fifth and sixth innings.

Young went 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run and McCullen finished with a hit.

The teams combined for 10 errors in what was a cold and wet afternoon.

In the other game of the tournament, Ticonderoga defeated Warrensburg 3-2 on Tuesday.

Granville (1-1) hosts Hoosic Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
