Little League cleanup day

It’s almost time to play ball, but before the first pitch of the Little League season is thrown out, players, coaches and parents have some cleaning to do.

The Granville Little League has scheduled two cleanup days. The first is this Saturday, April 25, beginning at 9 a.m. and the second is at noon on Saturday, May 2.

Volunteers are need for both events.

Organizers will seek to divide volunteers based on teams. Players, coaches and parents from the same team will assigned to clean, rake and prepare the field they will play on this season.

“The idea is that it gives them some ownership,” Denise Davies said.

All volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves and hand tools (rakes, shovels, etc.).

This year’s Little League Season will get underway on Monday, May 4. The annual parade will step off Main Street at 5 p.m. and teams will meet at the field for an Opening Pitch ceremony.

The league’s annual coin drop will be held the morning of Saturday, May 2, and players and volunteers will be located in three or four areas in the village.

Volunteers are needed to work the concession stand and to umpire games. Potential volunteers can call Davies at the village offices at 518-642-2640.
