Tennis team secures first win

Last Friday, the Whitehall tennis team locked down its first win of the season, defeating Argyle 6-1.

In the No. 1 spot, Alex Wood defeated Sam Branion 10-4; in the No. 3 spot Steven Gosselin shutout Vanessa Havens 10-0; Noah Ramey had a 10-3 win over Zack Schneible in the No. 4 spot; and Brent Williams got a 10-1 over in Chyanne Sunger in the No.5 spot.

The only singles loss on the day was a nail-bitter, as Matt Austin was defeated 10-8.

In doubles, the Railroaders recorded two shutouts.

John Hollister and Austin Williams defeated Jeff Bumbard and Sammie Walker 10-0; and Connor Lavoie and Zach Eaton blanked Brandon Mercier and Jade Vestal 10-0.

Whitehall (1-2, 1-2) was scheduled to play at North Warren on Monday, but that was rained out. The Railroaders traveled to Corinth on Wednesday, after this edition had already gone to press. The Railroaders host Greenwich tomorrow at 4:15 p.m.
