Tennis team bounces back

Granville’s tennis team has played fairly well recently, coming back from a tough loss with a nice win and narrowly winning another match.
The Golden Horde came out strong on Monday, beating Argyle, 6-1.

In singles matches, Granville’s Alexis Smith defeated Sam Branion, 10-0; Matt Bixby defeated Elliot Jenks, 10-1; and Kyle LaPlante beat Vanessa Havens, 10-1. The Golden Horde’s only loss of the day was Sean Reardon losing a close singles match to Zach Schneible, 10-9. Drew McEachron won his singles match against Cheyanne Stunger, 10-1.

In doubles matches, the number-one pairing of Brad McEachron and Phil Myer swept Jeff Bombard and Brandon Mericer, 10-0. The number-two doubles team of Gianluca Madaschi and Seth Browe won a close match against Kyrah Brown and Seth Brown, 10-8.

Against Lake George last Thursday, Granville was unable to win any of the matches, resulting in a 7-0 loss.

In singles, number-one spot Smith lost to Joel Wincowski, 10-1, and number-two spot Bixby lost to Connor Nicholson, 10-1. Number-three spot LaPlante lost, 10-2, to Noah Prime, and number-four spot LeAnn Rees lost to Dylan Smith, 10-1. Drew McEachron, in the number-five singles spot, lost to Hunter Lambert, 10-0.

The closest match of the day for Granville was a 10-6 loss in the number-one doubles match between the Golden Horde’s Myer and Brad McEachron against Gabe Sallstrom and Cooper Perkett. The second-seed double match was a 10-2 defeat of Browe and Israel Rees by Finn Lambert and Mike Valente.

Granville had a close match against Corinth, narrowly getting the win, 4-3.

Smith defeated Corinth’s Nate Watkins, 10-1; Bixby beat Adam Fox 10-2; and LaPlante won his match, 10-7, versus Nick Catalano. The Tomahawks’ Ryan Young and Taylor Pincheon defeated the Golden Horde’s Madaschi and Drew McEachron in singles matches by scores of 10-1 and 10-7, respectively.

In doubles action, Brad McEachron and Myer defeated Marina Calone and Chelsea Eggleston in a score of 10-2, and Granville’s Audrey Dennison and Daisy Coppins lost their doubles match to Danny Frechette and Kassidy Pancerella by a score of 10-1.

The Golden Horde (5-1) next play in the sectional preliminary on May 11. The time and date have not yet been announced.
