Hearing set on Hebron road abandonment

The Hebron Town Board will hold a public hearing at its meeting on June 25 regarding the possible abandonment of four town roads.

Supervisor Brian Campbell said the town is looking to abandon Wilson Lane, Pfitze Road, Oak Hill Road and West Campbell Road.

“These are roads that haven’t been worked in 20 to 30 years,” Campbell said.

Campbell said it could cost hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars to fix the roads up and keep them maintained.

“It’s not cost effective to have taxpayers pay to keep these roads maintained,” Campbell said.

He said county DPW superintendent Steve Haskins will be at the public hearing to present his comments on whether the roads should be abandoned or not and Campbell said anyone is welcome to come and share their opinions as well.

Campbell said that Pfitze Road is essentially a “driveway” and the town might have trouble abandoning Wilson Lane since he said Hebron would not want to abandon the road if the town of Granville does not also abandon its section of the road.
