Local man charged with child assault

Tyler Beebe, 20, of Granville, has been charged with assault in the third-degree for recklessly causing an injury to another for allegedly assaulting his two-month-old child.

Dave Williams, sergeant for the village police said that the station received a call from Child Protective Services about a two-month-old child who was transferred from Glens Falls Hospital to Albany Medical Center with head trauma.

“The child has a fractured skull,” Williams said.

Williams said that during the course of interviews with the child’s parents, babysitter and any witnesses that Beebe had said that he was upset after having an argument with his girlfriend and when he got home he forced the door open and went to close it and shook the car seat the child was sitting in and the child fell out of the seat and hit the ground. He is accused of recklessly causing injury to the child, not intentionally.

According to Williams, Beebe said he did not see any marks on the child and that the alleged incident occurred at 6 p.m. on Saturday and the child’s mother called Granville EMS the next morning at 11 a.m. about the child having some marks.

Beebe was taken into custody by the village police on Monday morning and was processed and arraigned and his bail was set at $1,500 which was posted the same day.

Chief Ernie Bassett said that the charges against Beebe could possibly escalate and that an order of protection was issued.
