Beauty will be rewarded

The Slate Valley Garden Club is taking submissions for the organization’s annual beautification awards from now until August.

Anyone with suggestions can submit them by calling the head of the judging committee, Margie O’Brien, at 518-642-0756.

There are awards in three categories – residential, commercial, municipal and professionally assisted – along with individual awards for green glove and golden glove.

“From now until August we go around Granville village and we look at gardens,” said club vice president Judy Andrews.

Andrews said there are eight club members on the judging committee.

Andrews said the awards are given out at a luncheon on the first Wednesday in August by Sharon Undal and O’Brien, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Slate Valley Museum, where they will show pictures of the gardens.

Andrews said the club has 45 members and meets on the first Wednesday of every month from April to December at the Slate Valley Masonic Center in Granville at 10:30 a.m.
