Huletts Park open for the year

The Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation announced last week that Huletts Park and Lauderdale Park are officially open for the summer.

The two parks will be open weekends only until Saturday, June 27, when both will begin operating on a seven day per week basis through Labor Day, Sept. 7.

There is no admission fee for Huletts Park, which is located on Route 6B, Sunset Bay Road in the town of Dresden. The picnic area opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. The beach opens at 11 a.m. and lifeguards are on duty until 7 p.m.

Features at Huletts Park include tennis courts, which can be reserved for a fee of $4 per hour; basketball courts; volleyball courts; and a playground. Additionally, there is a dock for launching a canoe or small boat that can be carried.

For those who travel to the southern part of the county, Lauderdale Park, on Route 22 in the town of Jackson, is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Features at Lauderdale Park include volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, nature trails and a small playground area. Canoes and kayaks are allowed. There is a $2 parking fee per car at Lauderdale Park.

Both facilities feature a large pavilion with a barbecue pit and walk-in cooler, which can be rented for family gatherings, office parties, wedding receptions, etc. To reserve either pavilion, contact the Washington County Department of Parks and Recreation at 518-746-2451.
