Rotary presents annual awards

Bob Golden, Hannah Jones and the staff and volunteers of the Pember Museum and Library were recognized by the Granville Rotary Club last week at the club’s annual awards night.

Jones was honored as the student of the year, Golden as the Rotary Club member of the year and the Pember staff and volunteers as the citizens of the year.

Matt Hicks, rotary member, said that Golden was chosen for his dedication to the club and willingness to help others.

“He’s always the one to step up and volunteer if something needs to get done,” Hicks said.

Jones, who is also Granville High School’s 2015 valedictorian, was chosen for the award based on her cumulative community service, said Hicks, who added that the school sends over a list of community service hours.

Mary King, president of the Pember, said that a year ago the new board of the Pember set out to try and help restore the Pember to what it used to be.

“We kind of stepped in and managed to turn it around,” King said, adding that it was “absolutely” one of the board’s goals, and that the board is happy and appreciative of the award.

“We took it a step further and asked them to also honor the staff and volunteers,” King said.

King said she was not sure how successful the turnaround would have been without the help of the staff.

King said one person who was not at the award ceremony was Robert Tatko, who she said was a “super integral part” of helping the board out over the year.
