Hey, kids, this slate’s for you!

The Slate Valley Youth Chalk Art Week returns for a second year, bringing artwork to slate on sidewalks at the Slate Valley Museum.

Children are invited to the museum to draw on the sidewalks throughout the week of Aug. 1 -7. A photo of their artwork will be taken and considered for the grand prize, a crafting gift basket.

On Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 2-5 p.m. children can stop by the museum for a free piece of slate that will be used for the same competition.

Last year’s event was a success and Krista Rupe, museum executive director, said she is looking forward to even more participation this summer.

“We’re looking to fill the sidewalks,” she said of the spaces in front and to the rear of the museum.

For those unable to attend the event, chalk creations on your own sidewalks are encouraged. Entries can be sent to [email protected].

The winner will be announced on Friday, Aug. 7, during the shared First Friday events with the Pember Library and Museum.

The first 50 children in attendance Friday from 7 -9 p.m. will receive a free box of chalk and a coupon for an ice cream from Stewart’s Shops.
