Missing teen found

Two seemingly unrelated cases involving teens from Fair Haven, Vt., converged last week, resulting in both the arrest of a wanted felon and the resolution of a missing persons case.

Calvn J. Lena, 18, and Issac Voisine, age 13, were located together at Cumberland Farms in Fort Ann Tuesday following an investigation that involved the Granville Police Dept., Whitehall Police Dept., Washington County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, Vermont State Police, Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife, New England K-9 Association, Vermont National Guard Aviation Unit, Fair Haven Police and the Fair Haven Fire Dept.

Voisine was reported missing late at night last Monday, July 20 after he left his home earlier in the evening and did not return home. Lena, meanwhile, failed to appear in Granville Village Court on prior charges Tuesday, resulting in a felony arrest warrant being issued for the charge of second-degree menacing.

After police learned Voisine was last seen at a residence on Adams Street in Fair Haven, and his bicycle was located a short distance from the residence near the river, K-9 units from the Vermont Fish and Game and the Washington County Sheriff’s Dept. did a preliminary search of the area, but he was not located.

A short time later, the Vermont State Police search and rescue team, The New England K-9 search and rescue Team, Vermont State Game wardens, Vermont National Guard Aviation Unit, Fair Haven Fire Dept., and Vermont State Police Bureau of criminal investigation arrived to assist in the locating and investigating this incident. A grid search of the area was conducted by the Search and Rescue unit and New England K-9 units. An aerial search of the area of conducted by Vermont National Guard Aviation Unit. The river was searched by the Vermont State Game Wardens and the Fair Haven Fire Dept. conducted a door to door search.

Police determined through further investigation that Voisine was last seen with Lena, who had been arrested in both June and earlier in July for first allegedly stealing a handgun and threatening an elderly woman with it, and then for failure to appear in court.

Police were unable to locate Lena to speak with him about the juvenile’s whereabouts but, through leads and tips, learned that he and Voisine may have fled the area in an attempt to get to California.

At approximately 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, the New York State Police located Lena and Voisine at Cumberland Farms store in Fort Ann, and both were transported to the New York State Police Barracks in North Granville. Voisine was turned over to the Vermont State Police and retuned to Vermont. Lena was arrested and turned over to the Granville Police Dept. to be brought to Village Court for arraignment on the arrest warrant. Lena was brought before Village Court and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of 10,000 cash bail.

The case is continues to be investigated, and Lena faces possible additional charges in Vermont for this incident.
