Recycled teens applauded

Nine honorary members of the Mettowee Valley Senior Citizens were honored last week at a luncheon filled to the brim with guests and laughter.

“Recycled teenagers” was uttered many times by members of the group, describing the twice-monthly meetings, outings and craft gatherings they host.

Members visited and repeated the fun they have at their meetings, Kathy Tatko overcome by giggles to the point she couldn’t speak her name when asked.

Those who received awards were recognized for reaching “that milestone number of 90,” said Lois Warner, group president.

In addition to a certificate, honorees received a potted violet plant and a generous round of applause.

Granville Mayor Brian LaRose, after delivering a speech filled with inspirational quotes, distributed the awards to the ladies, all seated at a head table along with their guests.

Mary Fleming was thanked for her volunteer work in organizing the event, which grew from a small affair of cake and ice cream, to a full luncheon with coordinated place settings.

Members of the group meet on the first and third Thursdays of the month. A crafting group is open to the public and meets every Tuesday.

A craft sale is currently in the works, set to be held Oct. 24.
