Hampton primary could decide election

By Christina Scanlon

November’s election could be decided next week in Hampton, depending how the votes play out at the Sept. 10 Republican primary.

Town supervisor Dave O’Brien is being challenged by former supervisor Lenny Reed. If Reed loses, his campaign is done as he is not on any other lines assuring him a spot on November’s ballot.

O’Brien, however, has secured the Conservative endorsement and if he loses the primary he’ll face Reed again on Election Day.

There two open council seats, with four contenders.

Both Arthur Pratt and Doran Pratt will be done if they do not receive enough votes on Sept. 10.

The other challengers, Tamme Taran and Roger Weeden, have secured a Conservative line on November’s ballot so they could still win on Election Day, even if they lose the primary.

Highway superintendent Herb Sady has secured the Conservative endorsement. Challenger Cecil McClure’s bid for the position will be done if he does not win the primary.

The Republican primary election will be held from noon to 8 p.m. at town hall, located at 2629 State Route 22A
