The Finch and Chubb Restaurant and Inn will soon be sold.

A year ago, former owner Bill Brina reported that “a restauranteur from the Adirondacks” had expressed interest in buying the once-popular inn and restaurant, but would not go into more detail. Now realtor Bethe Reynolds confirmed last Wednesday that the property is currently “under contract.”

Reynolds said of the Finch and Chubb, “It’s been under contract and we’re just waiting to finalize it. It’s scheduled to close sometime in February.”

She said until the sale is finalized she cannot disclose its specifics, but that the potential buyer has plans for commercial use of the building.

The restaurant, which was built in 1950, went up for sale in December of 2014, along with the Whitehall Marina and the accompanying campgrounds. Both the marina and the campgrounds were bought in January of 2015 by separate owners and have been operating separately as the Whitehall Marina at Lock 12 and as Champ’s Campgrounds. However the Finch and Chubb sat on the market a little longer.

In February of 2015 Brina said “Marinas are a very specialized market. The Finch will be primarily a restaurant, with apartments that you could either rent out or use as an inn; that will be up to the owner.”

Reynolds’ website listed the asking price for the 19,166-square-foot property at $159,900. The property includes the restaurant, docking for 13 boats, five apartments and four rooms, all with in-suite bathes.

According to Washington County Real Property the property is assessed at $109,400, which is $100,000 lower than it was assessed at in 2012. The taxes on the property in 2015 were $1,155.72 for the school, $2,302.22 for the village and $1,081.86 for the county. Dagon Enterprises, which is run by Brina, is listed as the owner and all the taxes have been paid on the property.
