In an effort to fill the seat left empty by the death of board member Farrell Prefountaine, the Whitehall Town Board decided Wednesday night to solicit interest in the position.
Interested persons are asked to submit a letter, stating the reason for their interest and their qualifications, to town supervisor George Armstrong. An appointment will be considered after all letters of interest are reviewed by the board.
The appointment would be for about a year. The appointee would have to seek office in the election next November to fill the remaining two years of Prefountaine’s term.
At the meeting the board also reappointed two members of the Whitehall Planning Board, Andre Hagadorn and Howard Hunt. These positions have a five-year term.
The recreation center will host a party for area children on Dec. 10. Julie Eagan noted that she expected the event to fill the day with caroling at 2 p.m., a spaghetti supper at 3 p.m. that is open to children and their families, and a visit from Santa planned for 4 p.m.
Eagan also noted that signups for Peewee Wrestling has begun and the season starts in January.
Clark Howe of IntegraLED appeared before to board to present a plan to change lighting within town properties to LED lights through a program in conjunction with National Grid. The board voiced concerns over the installation portion of the proposed contracts and members will seek comparison pricing prior to making a decision on the plan.
Carol Greenough, Heritage Area director, noted that she had completed and mailed an application to LARAC for financial support of the 2017 planned festival and music in the Heritage Park. She anticipates a response in late December. She also noted the reprint of the book on Philip Skene has been delivered to the museum and is on sale. Copies are available at her office in the municipal building. The History and Construction of the US Schooner Ticonderoga reprint will be completed shortly and will also be on sale from the Historical Society.
The town board will meet again on Dec. 21 at 7 p.m.
