basketball Jones

'Tonight's the night we make history'

other than a lame reference to STYX-a-la-Dennis-DeYoung-in-all-of-his-sappy-glory the phrase represents what could go down tonight in the Granville High School gym.

It needs a cool nick name doesn't it - the gym I mean.

'The Stepps'

...as in the Horde roamed the...

NO

takes too long to explain

'The animal skinned tent'  ...as in the Mongol hoards lived in...

again,

probably not

it should be some sort of Ghengis Khan reference though, shouldn't it?

'The Mongoladium'  (mon-goal-A-dee-um)

hmmmm, best so far but not quite there yet

Looking around for some of the past Horde teams to see how they've done...more to come.

Seedings

Information is slowly beginning to trickle out of the seeding meetings from yesterday and today...

Wrestling

What we have so far is ONLY

Karl Palmer - 1st seed -

ranked for Granville at the Civic Center. I thought others might edge is especially Walter Foster, but I guess when you throw in the wrestlers from down south there's no room for the other quality wrestlers from this neck of the woods.

That could make Foster dangerous coming out of the pack, hope so. The Horde have a few chances to get guys to Albany with Palmer the best shot - strange things can happen though so other Horde grapplers might surpise higher seeds.

Girls Basketball

Granville ended up seeded number 15 out of 16 and heading to face number two seed Fonda Fultonville;

two teams play in, to face number one Watervliet.

'Vliet somehow got placed first despite Granville's upcoming opponent (FF) having a single loss and a 19-1 overall record (their only loss came in late Dec.) and 15-0 in their league - not sure why this is.

Vliet is not ranked while Fonda is 15th in the state. I don't claim to know a lot about basketball period, but that seems odd to me.

Anyone?

Sure seems like something got mixed up there, maybe ducking  the Black Horses who face Cobleskill-Richmond for the right to face Vliet. Curious, truly curious. But I could see not wanting to go up against the #44, she was a very physical presence in the second half against Granville in that heartbreaker Feb. 13.

Boys basketball

Granville earned a 4 seed in the tournament and will face 13-seed Spa Catholic here in Granville.

The Saints were 7-7 this year in thier league and 9-11 overall in the Western Athletic Conference. Don't know much about their b-ball team, but if any of their baseball athletes are on this team, they could be tough. time will tell.

This game will be at home Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. AND everyone will be back in uniform.

Notables: Tamarac is the 2, Hudson Falls 3 and Fonda the 1.

sports updates

Watch this space for updates on the wrestling and basketball playoffs

Today, almost as I write this, the wrestling seeding meeting is taking place. Walter Foster and Karl Palmer look pretty good for high seeds if not the tops at 135 and 215. Three other Granville wrestlers Hastings, Miller and Ehntholt also advanced and should have pretty good position; should be a good weekend for the Horde.

The boys basketball meeting is Wednesday in Saratoga, I think, I'm curious to see where Granville ends up. Class B I do believe, facing lots of teams for the Thruway corridor. I'm completely guessing and repeating guesses I've heard elsewhere when I say the  Horde are a middle of the pack seed 6-8 but hard to say coming out of the northcountry and facing Broadalbins, etc. With just four losses overall GV should get some respect at the seeding meeting, cross your fingers Horde fans.

you oughta know - not just an Alanice (?) Morrisette song

Thanks A

check out the paper for that info, on news stands now

I'm always on the look out for business news like that, a good sign for GV that despite the economy this company is going forward with its plan

now, if we could get something or someone to sell everything else AMES had......

I've got to go Google the correct spelling of her name.

blog

Bummer… I see that Molly’s will be closed for a while, too bad, a nice place for a frosty cold beverage. Sign in the window says reopening, no more info on that yet.

Know something? Give me a call or reply to this blog OR email me, remember that blog posts will be ‘out there’ and people will be able to see them.

Speaking of… if you try to post a reply here and want to say its from someone else, at least spell their name right – it’s Ehntholt – no ‘D’ in there anywhere.

And judging from the brief but sophomoric nature of the response someone should be spending their study hall time studying.

What else?

Building is going fast on the new clothing store. Guys at the site were telling me their deadline for turning the site over it Feb. 20.

Is it spring yet?

And finally, a shout out to this blog’s only fan – Hello Ardyce!

uhhhhhh

boys Bball on the road tonght

a big contest, granville has 3 games left with one team below .500 - Feb.13 Schuy

one team at .500 toniht's hoosic valley

and one team well over .500 secnd meeting with Tamarac its fitting this group are called the Bengals as in tigers beacuse the folded like paper tigers following their first loss which was to granville

they had been state-ranked and have since dropped at least three games; provided granville gets past them FEb. 11 their record against Tamarac might be the deciding factor in a league championship. While they have lost to Hoosick Falls twice - bad, should have won type losses each time, if HF can't do the same, is that a 'tie-breaker'?

I'm going to have to ask around, I don't know about that one. GV beat stillwater - twice. BUT, lost to Falls, twice, now...if falls loses more games than GV does that place them ahead in the standings? Seems like it but math is not a strong suit here.

GBB

The girls at home are unfortunately hosting one of the league's best in 'Valley. If the defense clamps down, which hasn't been as much of an issue as what the team really needs more scoring from more spots on the floor

Wrestling

things will start to get interesting on the mats as the end of the season rapidly approaches, with plenty of talent on the squad, depneding on health, GV looks to send at least one wrestler deep. Can any Horde wrestlers represent in Albany this year? Stay tuned.
