An overpowering first half by Fort Ann was all it needed to defeat Whitehall last Thursday in a girls basketball game held in Fort Ann.

The Cardinals (9-3, 10-3) outscored Whitehall  37-5 in the first half en route to a 56-22 victory.

The Railroaders had no answer for Jordan Aubin, who scored more points than Whitehall as a team, netting a game high 25 points in the game. Teammate Kayla Bancroft added 16 points for good measure.

Ashley Davis led Whitehall with nine points and Kelsey Farley scored six.

The Cardinal defense gave Whitehall troubles all night. As Fort Ann raced out to a 17-0 advantage, the Railroaders were shut out in the first quarter and were unable to score more than nine points in any quarter.

Whitehall scored 17 points to Fort Ann’s 20 in the second half, but it was too little too late.

The first-half woes continued on Tuesday night as Whitehall hosted an Argyle squad that was undefeated in the league and had lost only a single game all season.

The Scots (13-0, 13-1) took control of the game early, outscoring Whitehall by 24 points in the first quarter on their way to a 63-28 victory.

Jax Miller scored 20 points for Argyle, and teammates Megan McWhorter and Shelby Graham scored 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Ariel Ayers led the way for the Railroaders with 11 points, including nine on three pointers, and Brittney Putorti added eight points of her own.

As was the case against Fort Ann, Whitehall fell into a deep hole early and was unable to recover.

Argyle scored 40 points in the first half to the Railroaders nine.

For the game, Whitehall was limited to single-digit scoring in three of four quarters.

The loss dropped the Railroaders to 5-9 on the season.

The Railroaders will host Hartford at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Feb. 3), and Salem at 6 p.m. on Feb. 7.
