Man dies in Whitehall accident

An elderly man died Wednesday morning after a minivan he was driving was struck by a log truck.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

The accident happened on Route 4, several miles east of the village of Whitehall.

Police said the driver was approaching Route 4 on County Route 9B when he failed to yield the right of way and pulled into the path of a west bound log truck. The truck struck the driver’s side of the minivan and it came to rest just south of Beckwith Road.

A female passenger, who police believe was the driver’s wife, was transported to Glens Falls Hospital and was in critical condition Wednesday morning, State Police said.

The driver of the tractor trailer truck was uninjured.
