Individuals fare well at Lansingburgh Tournament

Four members of Whitehall’s wrestling team recorded at least seven wins at the Lansingburgh Duals last weekend.

John Diekel (138) was undefeated, finishing with an 8-0 record, including five wins by pin. He also picked up his 200th varsity win.

Al Aubin (120/126) went 7-1, as did Austin Rich (106), and Chad Amerio (113).
Dominic Gregory (195/220) went 4-1 on the second day of the two-day tournament and Ryan Love recorded four wins over the course of the weekend.

As a team, Whitehall finished the tournament 2-6. The Railroaders topped Mohonasen 45-36 and defeated LaSalle 59-10. They lost to Cortland (48-30), Shaker (45-42), Ravena (45-27) and Lansingburgh (43-37).

The tournament started a day after Salem edged Whitehall 43-30 to claim its second straight Adirondack League regular season title.

Salem recorded four pins in the match.

Logan Dudley (220) and Jake Gregory (145) recorded pins for Whitehall, Diekel (138) won by technical fall, and Brandon Steves (170) won a 10-1 decision over Jacob Jameson.

Al Aubin recorded a 7-3 win over Carter Merecki at 120 pounds in one of the most anticipated match-ups of the evening and a possible preview of the Sectional II championships next month in Glens Falls.

Aubin earned multiple points in each period and a late flurry in the closing moments of the third period gave him the win.

Aubin and Diekel were honored before the start of the match as part of the wrestling team’s senior night.

The team will compete in the Cambridge Tournament this Saturday in the last competition before the postseason tournaments begin.
