Townwide sale next weekend

B y Dan King

Bargain seekers will converge on Whitehall Labor Day Weekend, as they seek the best deals around.

The Chamber of Commerce will be putting on its annual townwide yard sales from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4 and Sunday, Sept. 5. Various individuals and businesses will be getting in on the action, trying to clear clutter, find deals and interact with their fellow community members.

“This is something good for the whole community,” said event organizer Marge Mohn. “Everybody should come out and take advantage of the deals they can find and the money they can make. If people have antiques to sell, they can make a lot of money, that money can go toward school taxes or winter bills. It’s really the perfect time of year to make a little extra money.”

Any individual, business or organization is welcome to participate, and for the second year sale locations will be included on a map for free. Anyone interested in being included on the map should call 518-499-2435 and leave a message with their address by Thursday, Sept. 3.

“I think there will be about 40 sales listed on the map,” Mohn said. “People can find all sorts of good stuff. There are always household items and antiques, some of them are like brand new. If someone has a kid in school they could find some school clothes, pens, pencils, school supplies.”

Despite gloomy conditions last year, the event drew a good crowd, and this year’s forecast looks much better for shoppers, with forecasts in the high 70s and little to precipitation currently anticipated.

“We’ve had wonderful crowds and I’m expecting good weather this year, so I think we’ll have another good crowd,” Mohn added.
