The village will have to wait another few weeks for the Granville Hook & Ladder Fire Department to return to service.
Members of both the Hook & Ladder and the Granville Engine & Hose Company teamed up last week to train on the Hooks’ ladder truck – one of the village board’s last requirements – and firefighters discovered there was an issue with the truck’s hydraulic lines.

Firefighters discovered an issue with the ladder truck’s hydraulic lines during last week’s training.

The department only recently got its ladder truck back from a repair shop in Albany where it had stood for the last three years because of an outstanding repair bill.
Last week, the village cut a check for $9,500 to get the truck back.
The truck was returned to the repair shop to address the hydraulic issues last Thursday.
Mayor Brian LaRose said it will be three weeks or so until the truck is fixed.
“We are not sure is it’s something we did or if it’s something on their end,” LaRose said.
The Hook & Ladder has been on a stand-down order – unable to respond to any calls or dispatch any vehicles – since June 6. Since then, village officials say members of the department have satisfied most of the certifications and inspections that were outstanding.
“I was hoping to lift the stand-down order yesterday (July 27),” LaRose said.
Now, he said, the ladder truck repairs will determine when the department will be put back in service.
“I am just glad that it happened during a training and not at a scene,” he added.
