History Talk

November 17 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Bennington Historical Society will welcome Stephen Butz, who will discuss “Shays’ Settlement in Vermont: A Story of Revolt and Archaeology” on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Bennington Museum. In 1786, Shays led a protest about taxation in Massachusetts and in 1797 attempted to take over a Federal Armory in Springfield. He and his followers fled to Sandgate, where they established a settlement. The settlement was rediscovered in 1997 and has been under study since 2013. Butz will talk about this archaeological investigation. Free and open to the public. Information: 802-447-1571. Bennington Museum, Ada Paresky Education Center, 75 W. Main St., Bennington, Vt.
